A serious traffic accident occurred during the afternoon of this Sunday, August 16 on the road connecting Mosquera with Bogotá, in Cundinamarca. The incident involved an intermunicipal public service minibus that ended up overturned after leaving the roadway.
The event took place after the Tres Esquinas sector, in the area known as Pajares de Yerbabuena, in front of the San Carlos Industrial Park 2. According to preliminary information, the driver may have lost control of the vehicle before it ended up off the road.
Passengers were assisted after the overturn
The minibus rolled several times and ended up on its side on the roadway, a situation that caused an emergency both for the affected occupants and due to the obstruction of the traffic corridor.
People who were in the area initially approached to help the passengers and support the rescue efforts. Some occupants were reportedly trapped inside the vehicle, making the intervention of emergency services necessary.
Ambulances, Firefighters units, and personnel from the Cundinamarca Traffic Police arrived at the scene. The response teams are working on assessing and transporting the injured, while authorities continue managing the incident.
The information available so far indicates that several people were injured. However, an official consolidated report on the number of injured or the severity of their injuries is not yet known.
Overturn causes heavy congestion towards Bogotá
In addition to the emergency, the accident caused significant disruption to the mobility of this corridor. The minibus remained occupying part of the roadway, which considerably reduced vehicle flow heading towards Bogotá.

Traffic reports show congestion from areas such as the Funza roundabout and the ICA Mosquera zone to the accident site. The situation has also been noted by navigation app users, who report stops and various alerts related to the incident.
The emergency also occurs amid the vehicle movement typical of the Assumption of the Virgin holiday weekend, resulting in high traffic flow on the corridor.
Authorities continue efforts to assist those affected, regulate traffic, and proceed with the removal of the damaged vehicle. While these actions are underway, drivers are advised to drive cautiously and, if possible, avoid the affected section.
Special mobility measures implemented to facilitate travel during the holiday weekend remain in effect this Sunday. Among them is the reversible lane on the La Mesa corridor, intended to organize vehicle flow towards Mosquera.
Looking ahead to Monday, August 17 holiday, the Regional Pico y Placa will also be in effect for entry into Bogotá via the Calle 13 corridor. Vehicles with even-numbered plates may enter between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m., while those with odd-numbered plates will be allowed entry between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.
For now, the exact causes of the accident remain under investigation. Authorities are expected to release an official report with the number of people affected and the results of expert assessments to determine what caused the minibus to lose control.
