On the afternoon of this Tuesday, August 4, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Norte highway at 116th street, exactly in the Urbanización La Fontana neighborhood, Suba locality.
EL TIEMPO established that the vehicle involved is a 2009 HYUNDAI i30GLS model, which was driven by a 45-year-old woman, who lost control and crashed into the road divider.
Traffic accident in Bogotá
According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling north to south on the fast lane at 1:50 p.m., when, upon reaching 116th street, the accident occurred.
Apparently, the driver did not see the road divider, collided with it and, as a result of the impact, lost control of the vehicle, causing a total rollover.
The driver had to be taken to a healthcare center called Jard Salud, as she had hip injuries. The Bogotá Fire Department had to rescue the woman who was trapped between the inside of the vehicle and the road.
According to traffic reports, the traffic accident caused a major traffic jam in the area and it was reported that authorities are working on removing the vehicle and restoring mobility in the sector.
For now, the driver remains in the healthcare center while recovering from the injuries sustained in the traffic accident.

Traffic accidents in Bogotá
Between January and April 2025, Bogotá recorded 188 deaths in traffic accidents, according to the Statistical Bulletin of the National Road Safety Agency, a figure that represented a 13.7% increase compared to the average of the last five years, although it showed an 11.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Men accounted for the majority of fatalities, with 135 cases, while young adults between 20 and 34 years old were the most affected group.
Motorcyclists were the most vulnerable users on the capital’s roads, representing 42.6% of the deceased, followed by pedestrians, with 41%.
Additionally, pedestrian run-overs and collisions accounted for almost all recorded deaths, with 77 and 92 cases, respectively.
The report also notes that most fatal accidents occurred in urban areas and that Fridays showed the highest increase in deaths compared to the historical average.
March was the month with the most significant increase in road mortality, while nighttime hours concentrated the highest number of fatalities.
Regarding the injured, the National Road Safety Observatory reported 986 medico-legal assessments between January and April 2025, a decrease of 18.5% compared to the average of the previous five years.
Motorcyclists also led this indicator, representing nearly half of the assessed cases, while collisions were the main cause of injuries, with more than seven out of ten records.
