A woman was attacked with a stabbing weapon on the morning of Sunday, September 6 in module 4 of the Bogotá Transport Terminal, Salitre branch. According to the Police, the alleged perpetrator would be her ex-partner, who was captured after the assault and handed over to the authorities. The victim was taken to a medical center and, according to the report, is out of danger.
The events occurred while the woman was working in a commercial establishment located inside the terminal. According to the first versions known, the man arrived at the place where she was and, upon noticing her presence, the victim tried to leave the establishment.
Security cameras captured part of the sequence and the images, shared on social media, show the moment the alleged attacker arrives at the store and approaches the woman.
According to the recording, the man tries to grab her with one of his hands, but she manages to move away. The next second, the alleged attacker tries to enter the space behind the counter while the woman tries to exit from the other side. The man follows her and, during the chase inside the establishment, pushes a display case that ends up falling on the victim’s body. The images also show how he begins to repeatedly attack her with an object that appears to be a knife.
The situation was noticed by other people who were at the location. Amid the assault, a man intervened and managed to stop the perpetrator, while other citizens approached to help. According to information provided by the Police, the alleged attacker had been detained by citizens before being handed over to the authorities.
A person who witnessed the incident and whose identity is protected told Citytv, from the EL TIEMPO Editorial House, how they saw the victim after the attack. “I see her coming with both hands on her face, bleeding a lot. I think she was stabbed in one eye and she says also in the back. They say there were six stab wounds,” the witness recounted.
The same person said they were inside an establishment when they heard the screams. “It was around 8-9 in the morning. At the time, I was not outside, at the door of the store, I was inside and only heard the screams,” they explained in their account to Citytv.
For its part, the National Police reported that the procedure was carried out for the crime of personal injury. Lieutenant Colonel Adriana Ruiz, commander of the Police station at the Terminal, explained that the case occurred during the day on September 6 and that the victim was taken to receive medical attention.
According to the officer, the man “assaulted and injured with a stabbing weapon who would be his ex-partner.” After the assault, the commander explained, the corresponding care route for the woman was activated. “The victim was taken to a medical center and the care route with the purple patrol was immediately activated,” she indicated.
The official added that members of this unit provided the corresponding support and that later the Family Commissary granted protection measures to the victim.
The authority also explained that the alleged perpetrator was initially detained by citizens who were at the terminal. Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office informed EL TIEMPO that the man’s capture was legalized this Monday, September 7, and that the alleged attacker remains detained at the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of Engativá.
Terminal Salitre issued a statement
The Bogotá Transport Terminal also issued a statement about what happened. In a message published on its official X account, the entity assured that the intervention of its staff allowed action during the assault.
“The quick and timely reaction of the Bogotá Transport Terminal security team allowed intervention during a stabbing assault against a woman,” the terminal declared referring to the events recorded at the Salitre branch.
Likewise, it stated that the man was initially captured by members of its security team and later handed over to the Police. “The alleged attacker was captured by the security team and later handed over to the National Police,” the statement indicated, specifying that the institution was in charge of the procedure and actions aimed at establishing the circumstances of the case and the corresponding responsibilities.
Regarding the woman’s condition, the Transport Terminal reported that she received care after the assault and that she was taken to a healthcare center. It added that it rejects “any form of violence against women and reaffirms its commitment to the protection, care, and safety of all people who work and transit through its facilities.”
Among the known elements about the case is also the background of a possible situation of violence that would have occurred days before. According to some witnesses consulted by Citytv, the woman would have been subject to assaults or threats by the man before the attack at the terminal.
The first information also indicates that both had a sentimental relationship and that the alleged attacker worked at the Terminal facilities. However, the latter would have resigned from his job a day before the assault and later returned to the place where the victim worked.
One of the known testimonies also referred to alleged threats the woman would have received during the previous days. “She says they lived together and that the man threatened her a lot, both her two children and her mother, saying that if she did not return to him, he would kill her two children, her mother, and her,” the witness told Citytv.
For now, the authorities are investigating the circumstances of the attack and the relationship that existed between the victim and the captured man.
