The tranquility of the Engativá locality, in the northwest of Bogotá, was severely disturbed on the night of last Wednesday, June 3, after a violent hitman attack was registered in the Gran Granada sector.
The crime, which occurred at approximately 10:00 p. m., raised alarms among residents due to the notable increase in insecurity in the area.
Hitman Attack in Engativá
According to statements from authorities and the accounts of several witnesses, the silence of the night was abruptly interrupted by the sound of multiple gunshots.
The detonations, which occurred on Carrera 114 with Calle 77, terrified the citizens who were passing through the sector at that time.
Upon realizing what had happened, the community observed a man lying on the ground with extremely severe injuries and near a garbage area, so they immediately notified emergency lines.
Upon arriving at the scene of the tragedy, authorities verified if the victim showed vital signs; however, due to the severity of the impacts, the man died instantly at the scene. Immediately, the Police proceeded to cordon off the crime scene to preserve evidence.
“In the last few hours, in the Engativá locality, police units were alerted to the presence of a person lying on a public road. Upon arrival, the patrol found a person around 50 years old, who, apparently, was attacked with a firearm; due to that aggression, they lost their life,” said Lieutenant Colonel Javier Cárdenas, garrison officer of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police.
Minutes later, personnel from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General’s Office arrived to carry out the technical inspection of the body and the subsequent removal of the victim, a man approximately 50 years of age.
A specialized group of investigators is already deployed in the sector analyzing security cameras and gathering key testimonies to identify those responsible for this homicide.
“The investigation was taken over by a group of CTI officials from the Attorney General’s Office who are carrying out the pending tasks to clarify the facts and find the alleged perpetrators,” Cárdenas added.
Although authorities are carrying out all investigations to determine what occurred: the victim’s identity and whether the case was a settling of scores.
Finally, the community of the Villas de Granada neighborhood demanded a greater police presence in the area.
