England thrashed France 6-4 in Miami to claim third place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The first goal of the match came in the 3rd minute, when Declan Rice recovered the ball and advanced to the edge of the area, where he took a shot that left goalkeeper Mike Maignan with no chance. It was his first goal in the World Cup.
Then, at 22, Rice recorded his third assist in World Cups and second in this edition, by taking a corner kick where Ezri Konsa won a header and scored the partial 2-0.
In the 36th minute, England took advantage of a counterattack and scored 0-3, through Bukayo Saka, after a double attempt controlled by Maignan.
Saka scored his second goal of the match in the 45+1 minute, with a cross shot from the edge of the area.
After the break, Kylian Mbappé finally earned a reward for his effort and scored the consolation goal in the 48th minute.
Then, in the 54th minute, Mbappé assisted Bradley Barcola for 2-4.
Mbappé scored his second goal of the match in the 67th minute. For now, he is the top scorer of the World Cup, with ten goals, surpassing Argentine Lionel Messi as the tournament’s all-time top scorer, with 22.
At 87, Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, after a penalty committed by Malo Gusto and awarded by Venezuelan referee Jesús Valenzuela.
After a pass from Dayot Upamecano, Ousmane Dembelé cut the deficit for France at 90+6.
But there was still one more goal: Jude Bellingham made a great play on a counterattack and, after getting past the goalkeeper, scored the final 4-6.
