Amid the solidarity days held in different parts of the country to support communities affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake, a scene recorded in the municipality of Sabaneta, Antioquia, ended up becoming one of the most emotional moments of the emergency.
During one of the aid collection sessions, a girl arrived at the collection center with a very particular donation: the piggy bank where she kept her savings. According to those present, the little girl handed over the container completely full of coins to contribute to the campaigns seeking to bring sustenance to the regions hardest hit by the disaster.
The gesture occurred while volunteers were receiving food, hygiene items, drinking water, and other supplies intended for families affected by the earthquake, which left thousands impacted in departments such as Chocó, Valle del Cauca, and several areas of the Coffee Axis.
Those who participated in the event described the girl’s act as “the most special donation” of the day. Although the economic value of a piggy bank may seem small compared to the needs of a large-scale emergency, the meaning of the gesture ended up impacting those present.
The video was shared by the TikTok account @bynatyvflorece, where it accumulated thousands of views and reactions. For many users, the girl’s willingness represented a genuine display of solidarity amid a complex situation for hundreds of families.
The images also showed several children who accompanied the event throughout the day. Far from remaining mere observers, they helped with various logistical tasks, assisting in carrying some of the aid arriving at the collection point and supporting the organization of the collected items.
The people who participated in the activity described them as “the best helpers”, highlighting the children’s willingness to get involved in a cause that seeks to support those affected by the earthquake.
The video sparked hundreds of messages of admiration for the girl and the other children who took part in the event. The comments highlighted values such as empathy, generosity, and solidarity.
Among the reactions were messages like: “That girl is raised by a great mom” and “This makes me cry a lot; so many emotions together”. Other users emphasized that “those small aids (…) come from the heart and the value instilled in this case is solidarity”, while another person wrote: “What a huge heart those little ones have!”.
