Although the Argentine coach was ratified in the position, the FCF did not reveal for how many years the contract extension will be, or if it will last until the next Copa América in 2028 or until the 2030 World Cup, where the centenary of the FIFA tournament will be celebrated.

Objective Evaluation

In recent days, the Argentine strategist held conversations with Ramón Jesurún, president of the FCF, to evaluate the work done in these four years. Both parties were willing to continue after the runner-up finish in the last Copa América, the performance in the South American qualifiers, and the 2026 World Cup.

“Coach Lorenzo has led the national team since 2022. During this period, he achieved an unbeaten streak of 28 matches, obtained the runner-up title in the 2024 Copa América, and qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026,” the FCF highlighted in its statement.

Lorenzo landed on the bench of the Colombian National Team in July 2022. Since his arrival, he has managed 51 matches, including friendlies and official games. His record is 31 wins, 12 draws, and 8 losses.

Eager to Continue

Néstor Lorenzo had already given clues about his future. In a recent interview with 365 Score, he revealed that he was eager to continue on the Colombian bench, despite the countless criticisms he received after the National Team’s elimination in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup at the hands of Switzerland.

“Now is the time to regain energy and continue working on the development of this project. We will continue to build a stronger national team, maintaining an offensive playing style and aiming for clear objectives,” he said.
The Colombian National Team bid farewell to the global event after five unbeaten matches. They won three games and drew the remaining two, but in the penalty shootout against Switzerland, they had to pack their bags and return home, something Lorenzo regretted.

“Undoubtedly, the penalty shootouts against Switzerland were the most painful moment; there, control is lost no matter how much you train. That’s where our World Cup dream ended,” said the coach.
