Heartbreaking message from Saavedra triplets’ family after finding Isabella, the last sister, dead in Cali: ‘Impossible to explain’

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred last August 10 in Colombia has so far left 281 people dead and 3,971 injured, as well as 10,677 homes destroyed and 65,840 damaged. This tragedy has affected several families in the southwest and west-central regions of the country.

One of the affected families is that of the triplets Ana María, Isabella, and Sofía Saavedra, who lived with their parents in a four-apartment building in Cali that was buried under the rubble.

The young women lived with their parents, Victoria Caicedo and Jairo Saavedra. When the strong earthquake occurred, they were in the process of evacuation, unfortunately, they did not manage to get out in time.

The story of this family has also moved the country, as the first body found was Sofía’s and later that of their parents, who were embraced amid the rubble.

The relatives held hope of finding the other two sisters alive. The expectation was confirmed when Ana María was found alive and taken to a medical center.

However, the search did not end there and the rescue team focused on finding the third triplet, Isabella. Unfortunately, the news of her death came on the night of August 13, when she was found lifeless among the rubble.

Her cousin, Diana March Espinosa, who accompanied the search from day one, confirmed that another of the sisters had died and that now only Ana María remained, who was fighting for her life in a hospital in Cali.

“With a completely broken heart, we want to inform that Isabella, the triplet who was still missing, was found lifeless. Until the last moment we held hope of finding her alive. Today, that hope turns into an impossible-to-explain pain,” the woman wrote on her Instagram account.

She added: “Now all our strength is focused on Ana María. She survived this tragedy and today faces the loss of her parents, her two sisters, and her uncle.”

Ana María’s family does not lose hope that she will recover soon and, although it will not be easy for her to face the loss, her cousin assured: “We will not leave you alone.”

Laura March Espinosa, another relative, lamented on her Instagram account the death of the second triplet and wrote: “We love you to eternity, Isabella”.

These three sisters were inseparable. Since they were little, they always supported each other, so much so that they decided to study the same career so they would not have to be separated.

“Since they were little, since they were born, the three have been the ‘trillis’, always the three together,” said Diana March Espinosa in an interview with ‘Noticias Telemundo’.

The connection they always had was something inexplicable, her cousin recalled. She also said that when Ana María was rescued, she indicated where in the apartment her parents and two sisters were.

“It was she who said where each family member was,” assured Diana March.

Her cousin also said that Ana María knows Sofía died, but she is not aware of everything that happened to her family, as they have not yet given her the news.

“She still does not know the magnitude of everything that happened, because she keeps asking and asking about the others,” she argued.

March also said she launched a fundraising campaign to support Ana María in the recovery process after the earthquake. She is aware that when she finds out what happened to her family, it will not be easy to face the news.

“First of all, her family will no longer be coming back […] Besides her home being reduced to rubble, she will have to start over, psychologically affected by the loss,” she said.
