Man involved in Spark controversy in Bogotá reappeared insulting Mayor Galán; said he would ‘never’ pay his fines

Edward Figueredo, the man linked to the case of the blue Chevrolet Spark that was seen going up a pedestrian bridge in Bogotá last July 20, reappeared on social media with a new video insulting Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and challenging the Mobility Secretariat.

Through a reel, which he later deleted from his Instagram account, Figueredo was seen driving, allegedly, in the same Spark that was involved in the controversy of recent days.

The man was driving around 12:45 AM on Calle 26, heading towards the city center, while pointing out that it would be difficult for authorities to identify him, as he drives at least three vehicles.

“It’s going to be very difficult for them, because I keep driving two or three cars. They are inept, just like their f***ing speed cameras, with which they intend to fine people, but they have to fully identify the driver, a task they haven’t done,” the man said.

At that moment, he passed right next to a traffic authority checkpoint that was set up on the other side of Calle 26. The individual insulted and challenged the mayor and the Mobility Secretariat.

“So long. I wipe my ass with these f***ers from Mobility and their f***ing mayor. Bunch of rats. Go, try to find out if you can locate the real driver, I was just recording,” Figueredo assured.

It is important to note that the Mobility Secretariat announced that the alleged offender could face sanctions of at least 3 million pesos after driving the car onto the pedestrian bridge and driving on sidewalks and bike paths.

Edward Figueredo said in the video that he was not going to pay those fines, nor the others that appear in his name with the Spark and other vehicles.

“They gave me that ticket. I have a bunch of speed camera fines that I will never pay. I have them there, they won’t take long to expire and then, we’ll take them out of the system,” he maintained.

Indeed, in the Integrated Information System on Fines and Sanctions for Traffic Infractions, Edward Fabián Figueredo Corredor has at least 43 processes for violating traffic regulations in the country, mostly in Bogotá, Cundinamarca, and Meta.

In detail, there are 38 fines and 5 tickets that accumulate a total debt of 32,968,288 pesos for sanctions he has not paid since 2023.

Bogotá councilman, Juan David Quintero, spoke out on social media rejecting the incident.

“The imbecile linked to the Spark who tried to cross a pedestrian bridge appeared in a reel —which he later deleted— insulting Galán and the Mobility Secretariat, mocking speed cameras, and openly challenging authority,” the councilman said.

Quintero was emphatic that, “first they put pedestrians at risk. Then they covered the license plate. Now, already identified, he laughs at the authority and presumes that he will never pay.”

Although he deleted the video in question minutes after uploading it in the early morning, Figueredo left another one online in which a serious infraction is evident to evade a toll in northern Bogotá and not pay the fee.

The recording allegedly shows a Chevrolet Spark on Bogotá’s Carrera Séptima near the Fusca toll booth. At that moment, he takes the return before passing through the barrier to go back south.

However, he goes back against traffic northbound to take a return that directs him northbound again to leave Bogotá, even with cars passing near him.

“We declare ourselves in civil disobedience. Here’s a small tutorial leaving Bogotá via the Séptima. We stand firm,” he says, as he heads back towards Cundinamarca.

For now, authorities are conducting investigations to establish who the driver was who drove the Spark onto the pedestrian bridge to confirm the corresponding sanction.

It is important to clarify that this case involves another person who appears as the owner of the vehicle but says they sold it.
