A road accident involving a school bus, a private car, and a truck occurred this Friday, August 28, at 146th Street with 13th Avenue, in the Acacias neighborhood, Usaquén locality, Bogotá.
According to the report from the Traffic and Transportation Section known by EL TIEMPO, the incident left three minors injured and the truck driver with a possible clavicle fracture.
The information provided by the authorities indicates that three vehicles were involved in the accident. The first was a private service car, whose driver, Carlos Andrés Rojas García Rojas, 42 years old, was unharmed.
The second was a public service truck, whose 19-year-old driver suffered a possible left clavicle fracture and was taken to Alcalá Clinic.
The third vehicle was a public service school bus affiliated with the company Lotus S. A., driven by José Numael Castellanos Castillo, 68 years old, who, according to the Traffic and Transportation report, was not injured. The minors who were affected during the crash were traveling in this vehicle.
What is known about the injured minors: how the serious accident happened
According to the official report, one of the 13-year-old passengers suffered trauma to the left knee and declined transport.
Another minor, 14 years old, also had trauma to the left knee and was not transported. The third passenger, 13 years old, suffered mild polytrauma and, like the other two, declined to be taken to a medical center.
The Traffic and Transportation Section explained in its report how the collision occurred. According to the information gathered by the police unit, the truck was traveling along 146th Street east to west and, during its route, initially hit the front part of the private car.
Subsequently, it continued moving and collided with the left side of the school bus.
As a result of the second collision, the truck ended up overturned on its right side. The authority’s document establishes as a hypothesis of the accident the behavior identified with code 112, corresponding to “disobeying traffic signals or rules,” attributed to the driver of VH2, that is, the truck.
The report from the Traffic and Transportation Section known by EL TIEMPO states: “The police unit reports that the vehicle travels along 146th Street east to west, initially colliding with the front part of VH1, then continues its movement and collides with the left side of VH3, causing the truck to overturn on its right side.”
The official information also states that the drivers of the private car and the school bus were unharmed. Regarding the school bus passengers, the authorities recorded knee injuries and one case of mild polytrauma.
The District Mobility Secretariat also reported the incident during the morning. It initially informed about a “traffic incident in the Usaquén locality, due to a car overturn on 146th Street with 13th Avenue,” so Bogotá Traffic and Fire Department units moved to the scene.
Later, a guide group arrived at the site and confirmed that it was not only a car overturn but a multiple collision involving “car, school bus, and truck.” By that time, ambulances were already in the area, and a tow truck was expected to remove the overturned vehicle.
The emergency response also involved efforts to restore mobility in this part of Usaquén. A tow truck unit arrived at the site and began maneuvers to remove the truck that remained on its side. While these operations were underway, Traffic units stayed at the location to assist with traffic management.
Finally, mobility authorities reported that the involved vehicles were removed from the road and that traffic was reopened in the area.
Alongside the authorities’ report, a woman identified on social media as Kelly Castillo posted information about the accident and claimed that the involved truck was transporting dogs.
In her post, she stated that the vehicle belonged to the company Cultura Canina and that there were 12 animals inside.
“Good morning. I am making this post in case the company does not inform you about what happened. Today, Friday, August 28, at 5:20 am at 146th Street with 13th Avenue, in the Cedritos neighborhood, a truck from the company CULTURA CANINA crashed with a school bus and a pickup truck and then overturned with dogs inside,” Castillo wrote.
The woman also said that after the accident, the animals were transferred to another vehicle from the same company. “I am making this post and asking you to help me share it in other groups in case your dog is injured, acting strangely, or something happens and the company does not notify you about what happened, since they called another company truck and loaded the dogs there,” she said.
In the same message, Castillo said she could not record the dogs that remained inside the overturned truck and confirmed there were 12. She also indicated that the vehicle doors had damage on their inside and requested that the animals receive veterinary care.
For now, the hypothesis recorded by the authorities links the accident to the alleged failure to comply with traffic signals or rules by the truck driver.
