Colombia once again stood out among the most prominent hospital systems in Latin America in the 2026 edition of the IntelLat Ranking of the Best Hospitals and Clinics in the region. Of the 105 rated institutions — from ten countries — 37 are Colombian, and eight of them ranked among the top 25 in the overall quality list.
The top spot on the Latin American table is held by the Einstein Hospital Israelita, from Brazil, followed by the Hospital Italiano, from Argentina. The best Colombian hospital, Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, ranked third in the region, the highest position achieved by an institution from the country. Following it, already in the continental top ten, are Hospital Internacional – FCV (7th) and Fundación Cardioinfantil – La Cardio (8th).
Completing the group of eight Colombian hospitals among the top 25 in Latin America are: Clínica Imbanaco (11th), Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe (17th), Clínica Reina Sofía Colsanitas (22nd), Hospital de San Vicente Fundación (24th), and Méderi Hospital Universitario (25th).
IntelLat warns that comparisons with the previous edition should be made cautiously: 32 new institutions were added to this version of the ranking, which changed the relative position of hospitals that had already been participating and raised the overall level of competition.
The top general hospitals in Colombia
Based on the General Quality Ranking score — which combines nine evaluation dimensions — this is the order of the 15 best general hospitals in the country:
- Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, from Bogotá, holds the first place in Colombia, with 85.1 points, and ranks third in Latin America.
- Hospital Internacional – FCV, from Piedecuesta/Bucaramanga, holds the second national place, with 80.5 points, and the seventh regional position.
- Fundación Cardioinfantil – La Cardio, from Bogotá, ranks third in Colombia, with 79.8 points, and holds the eighth place in Latin America.
- Clínica Imbanaco, from Cali, holds the fourth national position, with 75.2 points, and ranks 11th in Latin America.
- Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe, from Medellín, holds the fifth place in Colombia, with 69.5 points, and the 17th position in the region.
- Clínica Reina Sofía Colsanitas, from Bogotá, ranks sixth in the country, with 63.9 points, and holds the 22nd place in Latin America.
- Hospital de San Vicente Fundación, from Medellín, holds the seventh national position, with 63.5 points, and the 24th place in Latin America.
- Méderi Hospital Universitario, from Bogotá, holds the eighth place in Colombia, with 61.1 points, and ranks 25th in the region.
- HOMI – Fundación Hospital Pediátrico la Misericordia, from Bogotá, holds the ninth national position, with 61.0 points, and the 26th place in Latin America.
- Clínica del Country, from Bogotá, ranks tenth in Colombia, with 60.1 points, and holds the 30th place in the region.
- Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, from Bogotá, holds the 11th national position, with 59.5 points, and ranks 32nd in Latin America.
- Hospital San Vicente Fundación de Rionegro, from Rionegro, holds the 12th place in Colombia, with 59.3 points, and the 33rd position in the region.
- Clínica Las Américas AUNA, from Medellín, ranks 13th nationally, with 59.0 points, and holds the 34th place in Latin America.
- Fundación Hospital Infantil Los Ángeles, from Pasto, holds the 14th place in Colombia, with 59.0 points, and ranks 35th in the region.
- Clínica La Colina, from Bogotá, closes the national list, with 57.7 points, and holds the 39th place in Latin America.
In which dimensions the country’s hospitals excel
Beyond the overall position, IntelLat’s methodology allows seeing in which specific aspects Colombian hospitals perform better compared to the rest of the region. Among the top 20 places in each dimension in Latin America, the country placed:
- 9 hospitals in Efficiency, the dimension with the best relative performance. HOMI – Fundación Hospital Pediátrico la Misericordia leads this category across the region, followed by Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (2nd).
- 8 in Patient Experience, led by La Cardio (2nd in Latin America) and Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (3rd).
- 7 in Telemedicine, with Hospital Internacional – FCV (4th regional) and Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (6th) at the forefront.
- 6 in Safety and Clinical Outcomes, the dimension considered the most important in the ranking, where Hospital Internacional – FCV (4th) and Clínica Imbanaco (5th) are the best positioned in the country.
In Sustainability, Fundación Hospital Infantil Los Ángeles, from Pasto, is the first in all of Latin America, followed by La Cardio (3rd) and Hospital Internacional – FCV (4th).
Strengths by specialty
In addition to the General Ranking, IntelLat evaluated eight medical specialties this year. Colombian hospitals had their best performance in three areas:
- Oncology: 13 of the 35 best positions in the region are Colombian, led by Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (8th) and Hospital Internacional – FCV (9th).
- Cardiology: 4 Colombian hospitals among the top 10 in Latin America — La Cardio (3rd), Fundación Santa Fe (5th), Hospital Internacional – FCV (6th), and Imbanaco (9th).
- Neurology, a specialty evaluated for the first time this year: 11 Colombian hospitals among the top 20, with Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá in third place regionally.
Operational and financial snapshot of the sector
The analysis of the information provided by the 37 participating Colombian hospitals also reveals indicators about the sector’s operation and finances:
- The average performance of Colombian hospitals in Safety and Clinical Outcomes — the most important dimension of the ranking — improved from 55.8 points in 2025 to 67.4 points in 2026.
- Bed occupancy remained high, at 89.9% (90.0% in 2025), well above the 82.6% average of the 105 hospitals in the ranking.
- Operating room occupancy is also high: 83.9% (80.5% in 2025), compared to a regional average of 72.6%.
- Sales of these 37 hospitals grew 25.8% in 2025 compared to 2024 (in dollars of each year), well above the regional average of 6.0%.
- Profit margin on sales increased from 2.86% in 2024 to 5.38% in 2025, although it remains below the regional average of 5.94%.
- Investment in high-tech equipment grew 19.0% between 2024 and 2025, and hospitals project a 50% increase for 2026. Investment in information and communication technologies (ICT) increased 23.9% in the same period, with a projected growth of 10% for 2026.
- 51% of Colombian hospitals already use artificial intelligence to support clinical decision-making, a figure still below the 61% average of the 105 hospitals in the ranking.
How is the ranking made?
The IntelLat Ranking is built with quantitative and qualitative data provided by the institutions themselves, analyzed and validated by the consulting team through a questionnaire of 167 questions and more than a thousand data points. To be rated, a hospital must reach a minimum of 40 points.
The evaluation considers nine dimensions: Safety, People, Knowledge, Efficiency, Telemedicine, Technology, Sustainability, Patient Experience, and Prestige. This combination of indicators aims to ensure that no hospital is rated based on a single criterion, but from different angles of its operation and the quality of care it offers.
