About 90,000 fans gathered in the capital of the Nordic country to celebrate the historic performance, a police official told the NTB agency. However, striker Erling Haaland drew all the attention because of the curious objects he carried with him.

The AFP agency noted that Norway said goodbye to the World Cup on Saturday after losing 2-1 to England, in the quarterfinal overtime, after previously eliminating Brazil and Ivory Coast. It was the Vikings’ fourth participation in a World Cup.

The Royal Palace square was packed when the Scandinavian team stood in front of the crowd to start the now famous “Viking Roar”: imitating the rowing movements while chanting “ro” (“to row”, in Norwegian), a battle chant of the fans and the national team players, the agency reported.

Haaland starred in a scene that quickly caught the attention of the media and social networks: when getting off the plane he carried a plush raccoon and an empty bottle of an alcoholic beverage. The raccoon is an animal characteristic of much of the US territory.

The striker made sure to display both objects, because if he had wanted to, he could have put them in his suitcase and no one would have noticed. The media and social media users reacted with humor, interpreting it as another sign of his eccentric personality, the Argentine newspaper Olé specified.

He was also carrying a bag from a well-known company in the sector, which was interpreted as part of a commercial commitment.

The return of the Norwegian delegation was quite an event. The plane, upon entering the country’s airspace, was escorted by two F-35 fighters. Also, after landing, it received the traditional water arch made by four fire department vehicles. All this happened amid a large mobilization at the airport, with about 25,000 people, according to the local press.

Afterwards, there was an official reception, which included a visit to King Harald at the Royal Palace, located in Slottsplassen, a central area of Oslo. About 70,000 people gathered there, according to the Aftonbladet website, to pay tribute to the squad and the coaching staff.

However, when the players and coaching staff went out to the main square for the popular reception, the great absentee was Haaland. It was explained that he had to catch a flight, the Argentine media specified.

A video published by a website showed Haaland discreetly leaving through the back door of the Palace and walking towards a waiting vehicle, it concluded.
